E4 acquires US comedy Black-ish

Scripted-logo-460_2Black-ishUK terrestrial Channel 4 has acquired ABC comedy Black-ish, and will premiere it on its youth-skewed digital channel, E4.

Black-ish has been a ratings and critical success for ABC, and is currently in its second season on US broadcast television.

The series follows Anthony Anderson and his African-American family, who try to balance their upper middle-class lifestyles with their heritage.

It comes from ABC Studios, and is sold internationally by Disney Media Distribution, with Disney UK & Ireland doing the deal with Channel 4.

E4 already plays US comedies such as The Big Bang Theory and Scream Queens, and is a coproducing a comedy-drama, Foreign Bodies, with Turner-owned cable network TNT. Parent network Channel 4 recently bought NBC drama This Is It.

Black-ish becomes the latest US comedy heading into the UK, following ITV’s recent deal for new season sitcom The Great Indoors.
