New Korean home for Peppa Pig

Kids-logo-460_2Peppa-1Global preschool hit Peppa Pig will launch on pay TV in South Korea later this month.

The show, which is owned and distributed by eOne, will go on the CJ Tooniverse cable channel from October 10.

The kids net is part of the CJ E&M stable of channels.

The show previously played on free-TV channel EBS in the country.

The broadcaster first took Peppa in 2013 and at that point eOne appointed Cocoban its local licensing partner.

PP002-(Peppa-running-CMYK)The new South Korea deal also ushers a new L&M deal for Peppa in the country, with Gideon Co. now the local partner. YeasRim-I is the publishing partner.

Dorothy Chan recently joined eOne as head of Asia.

“Asia is a key strategic focus in the international expansion of Peppa Pig and by partnering with best in class broadcasters and licensing partners we are building a strong foundation for future growth,” she said.

Peppa is the biggest breakout preschool show of recent years and now generates huge licensing revenue globally.

Its huge success prompted eOne to buy Astley Baker Davies, the buy the prodco that created the show, in a £140 million (US$177.7 million) deal agreed last year.
