BBC plots Mrs Brown’s Boys spin-off

Screen Shot 2016-09-21 at 15.15.25UK pubcaster the BBC has commissioned a pilot of All Round to Mrs Browns, an entertainment show spin-off of its hit comedy series Mrs Brown’s Boys, TBI has learned.

The core comedy series, which is filmed in front of a live audience and recently went out as a live show, has been a huge hit on BBC One and RTÉ in Ireland.

The channel, alongside BBC Entertainment, has now commissioned a non-TX pilot of a new entertainment show featuring the characters and cast of the original.

All Round to Mrs Browns will be a variety/entertainment show. Segments will include a ‘Mammy Award’, in which a deserving mum and Mrs Brown fan will be given the accolade.

The non-TX pilot will be produced by UK indie prodco Hungry Bear alongside Boc Pix, the Irish prodco created by Brendan O’Carroll, who plays the titular Mrs Brown in the sitcom.

Charlotte Moore, director, BBC Content and Alan Tyler, BBC entertainment commissioning, greenlit the new show.

Mrs Brown’s Boys follows Mrs Brown, a sweary matriach, and her dysfunctional family. It is the most popular comedy on British TV.
