Amazon adapts The Departed for TV

Amazon Studios is adapting Oscar-winning crime movie The Departed into a television series, according to US reports.

SVOD player Amazon landed the reboot after what Deadline described as a “competitive situation”.

Amazon Studios is producing alongside Vertigo Entertainment, Initial Entertainment Group and Plan B Entertainment, a trio of prodcos that were involved in the original 2006 movie. Warner Bros. Television is the studio.

Jason Richman (Detroit 1-8-7) is writing the series, which will reportedly put a new spin on the double undercover concept of Martin Scorsese’s film.

It will be set in modern day in modern day Chicago, amid an ethnic drugs war. It will see a cop go undercover to infiltrate a Latino gang, which simultaneously places one its own in the police demartment.

Richman executive produces, along side Graham King; Vertigo founder Roy Lee and head of TV Michael Connolly; Plan B’s Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Sarah Esberg; Tripp Vinson, Doug Davison and Gianni Nunnari.
