Cloud TV company Magine has set up a Hong Kong-based Magine Asia division, with plans in place to jointly launch an internet-based video streaming service in China.

Magine said it has struck an agreement with an unnamed Beijing-based digital TV system integrator and operator in order to build, launch and operate the Chinese service.

The agreement comprises the establishment and operation of an internet platform to provide both video-on-demand and linear content, streamed to more than 100 million households.

“Global expansion and deep strategic partnerships are key to Magine’s growth. With this agreement, we become a leading player in the rapidly evolving Chinese streaming market,” said Magine CEO Ambuj Goyal.

Swedish-based Magine now has offices in Stockholm, Berlin, London and Hong Kong. The company has provided consumer services in Scandinavia and Germany since 2013 and is currently working with partners in Asia, the Middle East and North Africa.

In October last year the company made its first entry into the Asian mobile TV market, partnering with Thailand-based cable network CTH to power its over-the-top offering.
