Canal+ name to go as Telefónica rebrands nets

Telefónica is rebranding its Spanish Canal+ channels in a move that will see the Canal+ brand disappear from Spain, to be replaced by a portfolio of channels that carry the Movistar brand used by the telco for its domestic business.

The rebranding exercise, which is taking place a year after the acquisition of the Canal+ bouquet by Telefónica from Grupo Prisa, will see the sports, movies and series channels carry the Movistar marque.

The sports channels will hitherto by known as Movistar Partidazo, Movistar Fútbol, Movistar Deportes 1 and 2, Movistar Golf, Movistar MotoGP and Movistar Formula 1.

Telefónica’s movie channels will be Movistar Estrenos, Movistar Acción, Movistar Comedia, Movistar DCine, Movistar Cine Ñ and Movstar Xtra, while the group’s drama channels will be known as Movistar Series and Movistar Series Xtra.

Bullfighting channel Canal+ Tôros, unlike the other former Canal+ channels, will not carry the Movistar name but will be known simply as Tôros TV.

Hunting and fishing channel Caza y Pesca and flagship general entertainment channel #O,which was launched by Telefónica in February, make up the portfolio of the telco’s channels.
