Amazon buys Evil Dead series

Amazon has acquired Ash vs Evil Dead for its German service.

The comedy horror plays on Starz in the US and the distribution arm of the premium cable net sells it internationally. it struck the Amazon Germany deal, which will see the drama, loosely based on the Evil Dead movies, play on the local Prime Instant Video streaming service.

The ten-episode first season will launch on the SVOD service from September 1 in its original English, and dubbed into German.

Season two then goes out later in the year, with season two bowing on Starz in October.

Amazon’s deal is restricted to Germany and Ash vs Evil Dead won’t play on its UK service after Virgin scooped the local rights.

E-commerce giant Amazon is in the throes of expanding its SVOD operation with an Indian launch confirmed and others expected to follow.
