Vice plots original video push after buying Garage

Vice Media has bought a majority stake in the art, architecture, fashion and design-focused title Garage Magazine, and is planning a subsequent push into video.

With the deal, Vice said that it plans to “significantly grow” the print publication’s online presence through a new video-driven digital channel.

While Garage’s bi-annual print run will continue, Vice said that the new digital channel will feature original video, exclusive news, interviews and events and join Vice’s eleven other digital sites.

Garage will also expand its New York and London-based editorial teams and create more international teams that will launch local editions.

“Through Garage’s partnership with Vice, we hope to broaden the lens through which our audiences are exposed to art, architecture fashion and design,” said Garage founder and Russian businesswoman Dasha Zhukova.

Vice Media’s global executive creative director, Tom Punch, said: “Garage will bring an arsenal of creative ideas and people to Vice so we are thrilled to help Dasha grow Garage’s digital presence and bring their ideas and collaborations to new audiences around the globe.”

Vice’s other digital sites include Vice.com, i-D (fashion), Broadly (female), Noisey (music), Munchies (food) and Motherboard (technology).
