Restructure at Tony Jordan’s Red Planet

Scripted-logo-460_2Alex Jones and Belinda Campbell have been appointed joint managing directors of Tony Jordan’s prodco Red Planet Pictures.

Jordan, whose extensive credits include Eastenders and Hustle, will take on the CEO role in the restructure at the prodco.

Jones has been upped from head of business and production, and Campbell from head of drama.

Company chief Jordan said: “Alex and Belinda have been integral to Red Planet Pictures’ success and growth over the past few years and I am delighted that they will now take on the roles of managing director… freeing up my time to concentrate more on the creative side, working with new writers, forming new partnerships here and overseas and hopefully, the bit I love best – the writing.”

Other changes at Red Planet see Julie Gissing upped to finance director, and Alex Protherough join the company from Little Island Productions to take a head of production role.

Newton Velji also joins the team, as head of development, factual. She comes to Red Planet from Crackit Productions.

Jones said: “I have been at Red Planet right from the start and am proud to have been part of the company’s substantial growth during that time.

“I am looking forward to working with Belinda to meet our ambitions to produce a range of content from big budget, international drama coproductions to event programming and of course working closely with Simon Raikes to increase our slate of non-scripted content.”

Campbell said: “Red Planet Pictures is synonymous with quality drama – from the ratings-winning Death in Paradise to ground-breaking ideas like Dickensian. I am looking forward to building on our international reputation to produce even more quality content that resonates with audiences in the UK and around the world.”

Red Planet’s unscripted division is backed by BBC Worldwide and the commercial arm of the UK pubcaster also distributes Red Planet shows internationally.
