The World War II thriller stars Jeroen van Koningsbrugge and, according to its distributor Dutch Features, marks a first for the US streaming service.
“The scope of the acquired rights is unique. Never before has Netflix acquired all worldwide rights to a Dutch film,” said Pim van Collem, CEO of Dutch Features Global Entertainment.
“The fact that Netflix took the decision to purchase the film even before it was finished is a great milestone for our company and for Dutch films.”
The deal for Pupkin and VPRO-produced Riphagen is actually an extension of an agreement inked last week that saw Netflix acquire a four-strong package of finished Dutch and international films.
The Dutch Features-distributed titles in that deal were Bon Bini Holland, A Noble Intention, and Israeli offering Suicide, and Croatian movie You Carry Me.
