Red Bull keeps Servus on air after u-turn

Red Bull-owned channel Servus TV will continue to operate, despite the announcement earlier this week that that the Austrian net was closing.

The channel is loss-making, but the closure was, according to local press, driven by channel founder Dietrich Mateschitz’s disgruntlement at staff plans to form a work council.

The decision has now been reversed and the channel given a reprieve.

Local sources said Servus is known for compensating staff generously, which was the source of Mateschitz’s ire at the decision to create a representative body.

Wals-Siezenheim-based Servus launched seven years ago after Red Bull had rebranded Salzburg TV, which it had acquired the shares in 2007 after a bankruptcy proceeding. It was available in Austria and some German cities, including Berlin.
