Corrie off air in the US, Hollyoaks stays on

Scripted-logo-460_2Coronation Street has been taken off streaming service Hulu, meaning the iconic British soap is no longer available in the US.

The series is one of longest running in the UK, having been on ITV since 1960. It is distributed internationally by ITV Studios, which confirmed it is no longer on Hulu and now has no US home.

Several reports suggested Hulu had also taken down Hollyoaks, the teen-skewed UK soap that goes out on Channel 4 in the UK.

Its distributor, All3Media International, however, said it remains on Hulu, but there had been an issue with delivery, as all episodes need to comply with US rules on closed captioning.

UK drama is currently faring well internationally, although British soaps, which are very UK-specific, have not traditionally been among the top sellers.

British tabloid newspaper The Sun, in its online edition, reported that “many” of Hulu’s paying subscribers had decided to drop the service in the wake of Coronation Street being taken down.
