Spike peers into The Mist with Stephen King

US cable channel Spike is to remake horror movie The Mist.

The network has ordered a ten-part scripted series based on the film, with TWC-Dimension Television, which is part of The Weinstein Company, attached to produce.

The film, based on a King novella, followed a seemingly innocuous mist that sweeps over a small town and creates havoc. The series will follow a similar line.

Spike ordered a pilot of The Mist in February, and produce on the full series will begin this summer ahead of a 2017 debut.

Christian Torpe, who created Danish drama Rita, will executive produce, after TWC-Dimension’s executive VP, scripted television, Megan Spanjian brought him into the project.

Spanjian, Matthew Singer and Keith Levine will oversee TWC-Dimension’s involvement, with Spike EVP, original series Sharon Levy, senior VP, scripted original series Ted Gold and senior director, scripted programming Lauren Ruggiero doing the same for the Viacom Media Networks channel.

Spike got back into the original scripted game last year after an eight-year absence with miniseries Tut, and recently ordered Red Mars, which is based on Stanley Robinson’s Mars Trilogy.

TWC-Dimension, meanwhile, created its debut television series, a reboot of horror movie Scream, for US cable channel MTV. It is part of Dimension Films, which TWC owns.
