Ex-Atlantique exec creates Dramacorp with Beta

Scripted-logo-460_2Patrick NeboutFormer Atlantique Productions and Nice Entertainment drama boss Patrick Nebout has launched his own prodco, Dramacorp.

Germany’s Beta Film has invested in the new company, which will be based in Sweden, and is a major shareholder.

Nebout plans to create, develop and executive-produce high-end dramas with international appeal, with Dramacorp financially packaging projects and working with local Scandinavian and international producers and talent.

Nebout is known as the creative director of Paris-based drama firm Atlantique, where he worked on series such as Canal+ and SVT drama Midnight Sun and for setting up Sweden-based Nice Drama with writer-producer Henrik Jansson-Schweizer.

“The scripted market has changed a great deal since I launched Nice Drama six years ago,” said Nebout. “To develop, create and package IP that is strong enough to make it in today’s market requires an equally strong investor, with extensive international experience, the ability to think outside the box and long-term ambition. Jan Mojto and his team at Beta Film fit that description perfectly.

“Dramacorp is not just another prodco in an already crowded Nordic market. Our concept is horizontal rather than vertical, so we’ll partner with local producers where it makes sense. Our aim is to make compelling and profitable drama and to shorten time-to-market.”

Nebout began his career at The Walt Disney Company, before working at Canal+ Nordic, SVT and Zodiak Media (now Banijay Group).

In related news, Beta is in Cannes this week launching in ARD Degato legal thriller drama Terror, which comes from Moovie The Art of Entertainment and Constantin Films.

The programme asks viewers to vote on the outcome of a legal case that begins when a German wing commander goes against orders and shoots down a hijacked commercial plane heading for a football stadium, where thousands of people are congregated.

“We want to create an international event, a campfire of linear television, gathering people to ask and answer this universal question: guilty or not guilty,” said Mojto, Beta’s founder and CEO.
