The eight-strong group of channels – NHK, Nippon TV, TBS, TV Asahi, TV Tokyo, Fuji TV, Asahi, ABC Japan and Yomiuri TV – will all take part in the fifth edition of the Treasure Box Japan initiative, which showcases new Japan-originated formats.
The broadcasters give buyers a taster of the new shows at a Sunday evening event in Cannes, which will be presented this time by The WIT’s Virginia Mouseler.
“Thanks to a great number of buyers who have taken a keen interest to enthusiastically support Treasure Box Japan over the years, we have been able to continue growing,” said Fuji Television’s senior executive director Mamiko Maekawa. “We are delighted to present the event on a much larger scale this year.”
Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) all support Treasure Box.
Each of the broadcasters taking part will present a new format.
Fuji will launch gameshow Mission: Infernal, and Nippon and TBS also have gameshow formats, Battle of the Homes, and Battle of the Super Boyz respectively.
TV Tokyo has a reality show, One Step One Penny, as does ABC, which will debut Kids Love Therapy, and Asahi, which will roll out Wild Skills.
Pubcaster NHK will present factual format 72 Hours at the Treasure Box event.
