Berlin: Shine France discovers DR’s DNA

Scripted-logo-460_2Shine France is set to board a new Danish drama from pubcaster DR.

TBI understands the final elements of an agreement are being worked out, after which Shine France, part of the Endemol Shine Group, will coproduce the series with Warner Bros.-owned Eyeworks Scandi Fiction.

Investigative crime drama DNA comes from writer Torleif Hoppe, whose drama Moths is in development with the BBC, BBC America and AMC.

DNA was pitched to buyers at the European Film Market’s CoPro Series 2016 this week in Berlin by DR’s distribution wing, DR Sales, which also presented three other series, Follow the Money season two, Splitting Up Together and I Am the Ambassador.

The series was elected for the event in cooperation with French market Series Mania, after winning the pitch last year.

The other shows in the pitch were The Disappearance, from Germany’s 23/5 Filmproduktion), Avrupa (Circe Films, the Netherlands), The Illegal (Conquering Lion Pictures, Canada), Wars Inc. (Drama Team, Israel), Brotherhood (Friland Produksjon, Norway) and Lucky Per (Nordisk Film Production, Denmark).

The Illegal has been selected from this year’s batch to screen at Series Mania’s Co-Production Forum.

“The main goal of this exchange is to give to the producers a second window to present their project in order to maximise the chances for them to meet the right partners and complete the financing of their shows,” said general director of Forum des Images and founder of Series Mania Laurence Heszberg.

The Illegal is based on a novel from Lawrence Hill, and is set in Africa and Europe. “As Africa is a developing market, this scenario opens multiple business opportunities,” said Herszberg. “We also see major potential for a Canadian project seeking partners in Europe.”
