AMC to geek out in late-night

US cable channel AMC has ordered a late-night talk show for fanboys.

Geeking Out (WT) has Comic Book Men’s Kevin Smith and Heroes: Reborn’s Greg Grunberg attached as hosts, and Matador Content and The Weinstein Company coproducing in association with Bandwagon Media.

The 30-minute nightly show will look at pop culture from a fanboy perspective and include clips, celebrity interviews and out-of-studio segments.

Jay Peterson, Patrick Reardon, Smith and Grunberg are executive producers on the show, which is expected to premiere with a special episode at Comic Con International in San Diego in late July. Eight more episodes will follow in late summer.

“As part of our growing non-fiction slate, we wanted to create a broadly entertaining venue for hardcore fans and general viewers where we can break down all things fanboy on a weekly basis, and we wanted to bring those fans great interviews and exclusive looks into the world of fanboy culture,” said Joel Stillerman, president of original programming and development for AMC and SundanceTV.

“I am going to get every single genre-based writer, director and actor I know to come on our show and geek out with us,” said Grunberg. “And they’re going to thank me for it. I love how Kevin Smith smells and we fit together like two hibernating fan-bears. Thanks to AMC and the Weinsteins, the rest of the world is going to get to see what’s inside our dark, dank geek cave.”

AMC largely moved out of unscripted programming more than two years ago, but has had huge success with Walking Dead companion talk show The Talking Dead since then.
