The X Files claims global ratings of 50m

The first instalments of the new series of sci-fi drama The X Files have been watched by 50 million viewers around the world, according to Fox.

The new series has performed well on the Fox broadcast network in the US, which launched the first two episodes of the new season on consecutive nights.

Internationally the show is going out within 24 hours of the US in 80 territories, and across all of these there were 50 million X Files viewers.

In Latin America the show went out on the Fox channel and beat the 18-to-49s numbers for the latest premiere of The Walking Dead in Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Mexico.

In Argentina The X Files opener delivered a three-year ratings record, with a 3.71 rating.

In Europe, across 11 Fox channels, the first episode of The X Files garnered 2.5 million viewers and an average of 1.7 million.

In Europe, rating records were set on the Fox channel in Finland, Serbia and Poland, where the second episode was the most watched episode ever on the channel.

On CTV in Canada the first episode of The X Files opener had 2.4 million viewers, making it the most-watched episode of the sci-fi series, which spans ten seasons, ever in the country.

In the US on Fox the show had 20.3 million viewers including catch-up viewing in the three days after the broadcast. On catch-up service Hulu and Fox’s TV Everywhere service Fox Now, it had an additional 1.1 million viewers.
