ID to contest Netflix’s Making a Murderer

US cable net Investigation Discovery is to release a doc special that refutes the details provided in Netflix’s buzzy true crime series Making a Murderer.

ID has commissioned NBC News-owned Peacock Productions to create quick turnaround doc Front Page: The Steven Avery Story, with an airdate set for later this month.

The response to the ten-episode Making a Murderer has been so strong that more than 300,000 people have signed a petition calling for the release of the titular Avery, who is accused of murder.

The Steven Avery Story will “provide viewers with critical details surrounding the case”, with some critics claiming Making a Murderer withheld crucial evidence around the case.

“As the country’s most experienced true crime network, we feel compelled to address some critical details missing from the case as presented in the Netflix documentary,” said Henry Schleiff, group president of ID, American Heroes Channel and Destination America.
