US filmmaker pays $600m for top Taiwan network

American filmmaker Dan Mintz is to acquire Taiwan’s leading broadcaster, Eastern Broadcasting Corp. for US$600 million.

His DMG Entertainment will acquire a controlling 61% stake in the network from private equity firm Carlyle Group, subject to approval from Taiwanese regulators.

EBC is a market-leading Mandarin-language broadcaster, operating 20 channels across a variety of genres. It also has European and North American cable services and a subsidiary network in South America.

Mintz co-founded DMG, which has produced Hollywood films such as Iron Man 3, as an advertising agency in 1993 before moving into television and film production.
