Sky Arts, Bookhouse to profile Pogues frontman

UK satellite channel Sky Arts has commissioned Zodiak Media-owned prodco Bookhouse to create a documentary about hell-raising Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan.

Shane MacGowan: a Wreck Reborn (WT) will air as a 1x60mins special over the Christmas period, featuring the singer, who is perhaps most famous for his festive duet The Fairytale of New York.

Billed as an ‘op-doc’, the show will follow the toothless MacGowan as he undergoes potentially life-changing dental treatment implications to receive a full set of dentures. It will be intercut with contributes from famous friends and fans.

The show is the first commission for Bookhouse since former Alaska TV creative director Ian Lamarra joined forces with Zodiak to form the company this year.

“Shane is one of the great songwriters ever produced in Great Britain and Ireland, and we want this film to reflect that,” said Lamarra. “It’s got a great PR-able new angle on the Shane MacGowan story and it will leap out of the Christmas schedule.”
