CBS strikes China streaming deal

Under the Dome largeThe international arm of CBS has struck a programming deal with Chinese streaming service PPTV.

The deal between PPTV and CBS Studios International covers a raft of series from the CBS network line-up and from the Showtime premium cable net.

The agreement covers the CBS summer event series, which have included Under the Dome (pictured), Extant and Zoo, and other network shows, which PPTV will make available in China.

Showtime’s signature series include Ray Donovan, Homeland and The Affair.

China-based OTT service PPTV has 400 million users. It competes with services such as Youky Tudou, LeTV and Tencent in the on-demand space.

“China has the largest number of online video viewers in the world, so we are thrilled to partner with PPTV to bring CBS and Showtime content to this exciting market,” said Armando Nuñez, president and CEO, CBS Global Distribution Group.
