Walking Dead team pact with Insurrection

The creators of zombie drama The Walking Dead have signed a pod deal with indie talent-focused Insurrection Media.

Robert Kirkman and David AlpertRobert Kirkman (pictured left, on right) and David Alpert’s Skybound Entertainment becomes the latest company to partner with Insurrection, coming after Wet Hot American Summer producer Jonathan Stern and former Paramount Digital senior executive Keith Quinn signed a similar deal.

Skybound and Insurrection will work together to identify, develop and produce sci-fi-themed programming for the US and international markets for both OTT and linear channels.

Skybound will also set up and oversee production service for Insurrection, working to develop intellectual property developed as original series into licensing and merchandising opportunities, especially as video games.

“We’re exhilarated to be partnering with Robert Kirkman and David Alpert,” said Kiliaen Van Rensselaer, CEO of Insurrection Media “They are visionaries and entrepreneurs who understand science fiction storytelling and multi-platform content development better than anyone else.”

“Kiliaen’s philosophy around empowering creators to experiment with resources in a laissez faire environment is very appealing to the team here at Skybound,” said Alpert (above left), who’s latest series is Outcast, a comic book adaptation for Fox International Channels.

The Walking Dead, which runs on AMC, is television’s highest-rated show, though its stellar ratings are down slightly year-on-year, which has promoted some concern among investors despite the numbers being far beyond the reaches of most programmes.

Spin-off Fear the Walking Dead became the best-performing basic cable series debut of all time upon launch this autumn in the US.
