Sony poaches ABC exec for int’l post

Sony Pictures Television has poached an ABC Entertainment Group programming chief for a new international post.

Jodie Platt has been named VP, programming and development, international production at the Culver City-based studio.

She was previously VP, current programming at the entertainment arm of broadcast network ABC. Having been in that post for four years, she was also VP, comedy development for ABC Studios between 2006 and 2008, and began working for ABC for the first time in 1998.

She will report to SPT’s executive VP, scripted programming, international production, Jeff Lerner, and be based out of LA.

Her post will see her working on scripted formats and original scripted series with SPT’s local production companies around the world to grow the studio’s global footprint.

Platt’s hire at SPT’s international arm comes after ex-Fox exec Sanford Panitch’s as president of international film and television.

It also follows Steve Mosko’s promotion from president to chairman of SPT, and a management restructure at the firm’s international arm. Mosko and Panitch are now working together on television projects.

SPT currently has 18 wholly-owned or joint venture prodcos around the world, and sells scripted formats such as Everybody Loves Raymond, Married with Children and The Nanny internationally.
