Cineflix snags buzzy British noir series

The_Bridge_bronbroenieps1The distribution arm of Cineflix has won the rights to Marcella, the upcoming ‘British noir’ series from Buccaneer Media and written by Hans Rosenfeldt (The Bridge, pictured).

Cineflix Rights will launch the series at MIPCOM next week. The series is set in London and is Rosenfeldt’s first drama for an English-speaking audience.

Buccaneer was set up by UK producer Tony Wood in association with Cineflix, but the prodco works with several distributors.

Cineflix Rights has Marcella for all international territories, excluding the UK, where it will play on ITV’s flagship channel ITV1.

“I’m very pleased to be launching ‘Marcella’ internationally. Buccaneer was set up to create drama for the international stage; our partnership with Cineflix Rights is a platform to bring creatives of different cultures together to forge top quality drama for the global market,” said Tony Wood, CEO of Buccaneer Media.

Chris Bonney, CEO Rights, Cineflix Media added: “We’re delighted to be distributing a show which feels bang up-to-the-minute and is exactly the type of strong character and narrative driven drama to fit into Cineflix Rights’ strategy for scripted content.”

As well as showcasing Marcella at MIPCOM, Cineflix will be selling shows from Pivot, after picking up a package of shows from the US cable net.
