Marcus Wolter1Endemol Shine Germany CEO Marcus Wolter has been elevated to chairman of the Endemol Shine Group’s northern Europe arm.

Wolter will remain in charge of the German production business, while adding the new post, which hands him oversight of operations in the Nordics, Netherlands an Belgium.

Endemol Shine companies in these regions are Endemol Shine Netherlands, NL Film and TV, Endemol Shine Belgium and Endemol Shine Nordics, with the latter comprising Meter Television, STO-CPH Produktion, Filmlance International, Mag5 Content, Rubicon TV, Metronome Spartacus, Metronome Productions, Endemol Sweden and Shine Finland.

“Each of our local companies combines exceptional talent with an incredible diversity of output and our aim is to ensure we collaborate and use our collective resources to best serve our partners and viewers in every market,” said Wolter.

Wolter will remain based at Endemol Shine Germany’s Cologne office and report directly to Endemol Shine CEO Sophie Turner Laing, who keynotes next week at MIPCOM in Cannes.

Wolter became CEO of Endemol Shine Germany in January after Endemol and Shine’s local production divisions merged, with the latter’s chief executive Axel Kuehn, leaving as a result. Taking on the wider post appears to hand him some of the duties Gary Carter performed before exiting over the summer.

“Marcus has done an outstanding job in bringing together Endemol’s and Shine’s teams in Germany this year whilst continuing to further build the combined local business,” said Turner Laing. “He will bring great energy and leadership to this new role and I can think of no one better suited to coordinate our efforts in these key markets.”

Wolter joined Endemol Germany in October 2008 from ProSiebenSat.1 Media’s interactive TV business 9Live, and had previously co-founded teen-focused channel Viva and worked as a producer for Brainpool and MME Moviement.
