Guest comedy Mascots supports Netflix strategy

NetflixNetflix’s latest original film release is Mascots, a Christopher Guest comedy.

Mascots will launch on the streaming service, which has pushed heavily into first-run movies in the past twelve months, in 2016.

Details of the movie are scant, but a press release says the film will include “all the drama, intrigue and occasional excitement of The 8th World Mascot Association Championships”.

The film will follow the “‘unusual’ men and women” who compete to be crowned the best mascot in the world by winning “the prestigious Gold Fluffy Award”.

The format apes mockumentary specialist Guest’s previous work, which includes the seminal rock comedy Spinal Tap and dog show film Best in Show.

Production and casting for Mascots has not been revealed.
