TV3, NBCU plan wedding format

Latvian channel TV3 has partnered with NBCUniversal International Formats to create wedding format Wedlocked (WT).

The format is based on an idea developed within the centralised development unit of NBCUI Formats parent NBCU International Studios, Tellycopter.

MTG-owned TV3 is seeking three couples willing to get married in August, and have so far received applications from more than 2,200 people. The selected couples will receive €7,000 towards their nuptials.

Red Arrow International format Married at First Sight is already a hit in Latvia on TV3, in part prompting this new commission.

“Wedding and relationship shows are very popular in Latvia, so we are very excited about this project,” said Baiba Zūzena, head of MTG TV Latvia. “People have already shown record-breaking interest in Wedlocked, with 1,050 couples responding to the casting call in 24 hours.”

David Mortimer, senior VP, factual and entertainment, NBCUI Studios added: “We’re delighted to be in business with MTG with our entertaining new wedding format developed by Tellycopter, NBC International Studios’ central development unit.”

NBCUniversal rebranded its international production units under the NBCUI Studios moniker earlier this year.
