On-demand giants pass on Fuller’s Hannibal

Hannibal1Netflix and Amazon have both passed on the chance to resurrect serial killer drama Hannibal.

Show creator Bryan Fuller yesterday tweeted the streaming services, which have resuscitated shows such as Ripper Street and The Bridge after their linear cancellations, had said no to the former NBC show.

However, he added he was “still investigating possibilities” as other on-demand platforms have entered the space recently. For example, Yahoo! came to rescue of another cancelled-but-critically praised NBC series, Community.

NBC cancelled Hannibal, which comes from Gaumont International Television, last month after three seasons.

The show, based on psychological horror film Silence of the Lambs, follows young FBI profiler Will Graham as he searches for a serial killer with the help of Dr. Hannibal Lecter, who is later found to be the murderer himself.
