Amazon renews Transparent, locks in Solloway

Amy-Landecker-and-Jeffrey-Tambor-in-TransparentAmazon has locked Jill Solloway, creator of its buzzy original series Transparent, into an overall deal. The streaming service has also renewed Transparent for a third season.

The comedy drama has created a lot of buzz for Amazon, although how many of its Prime Instant Video customers have actually watched the series is not known as the company never discusses viewing data and also never reveals how many Prime customers it has.

It is, however, widely accepted that Transparent has been Amazon’s most successful original series, winning awards and widespread critical acclaim. Sony Pictures Television sells the series internationally.

The third season of Transparent will launch on Prime next year. Solloway will remain showrunner on the show and as part of her new deal with Amazon will exclusively develop new shows for the SVOD service.

“Jill is truly a creative force and I’m thrilled that we will be collaborating with her additional projects in the future and on a third season of Transparent,” said Roy Price, vice president, Amazon Studios. “The second season is currently starting production, and I know our customers will be delighted to continue the journey.”
