Nat Geo, Morgan Freeman getting closer to God

National Geographic Channel has ordered The Story of God, a new series in which Hollywood star Morgan Freeman will explore the notion of the divine creator.

Revelations Entertainment, the prodco set up by Freeman and Lori McCreary, will make The Story of God, in which the actor will immerse himself in religious experiences and rituals all around the world.

He will also become a test subject in scientific labs to examine how the frontiers of neuroscience and cosmology are intersecting with religion. Each episode will focus on one big God-related question.

“The story of God is one of the greatest mysteries and most important ideas in the world,” said Freeman. “For me, this is a personal and enduring quest to understand the divine, and I am humbled by the opportunity to take viewers along on this incredible journey.”

The show will go out on Nat Geo in the US next year and also on NGC’s international channels.

Courteney Monroe, CEO, National Geographic Channel, said: “Blending science, history, anthropology and personal experience, we’re harnessing the power of the National Geographic brand and our unparalleled global reach to tell a meaningful and awe-inspiring story of religion and spirituality, across disciplines and faiths.”
