HBO Now to launch on Android

HBO’s recently-launched US streaming service, HBO Now, is due to launch on Android devices this summer, according to Google’s senior vice-president of products, Sundar Pichai.

Speaking at Google’s I/O conference in San Francisco last week, Pichai said that HBO Now will launch on Android, and that viewers will also be able to stream the service to Chromecast-equipped TVs using Android or iOS devices, or from a computer’s web browser.

Google also said that it plans to add HBO NOW and HBO GO to Android TV devices “coming soon”.

“We’re looking forward to expanding our relationship with Google through HBO Now,” said Bernadette Aulestia, HBO’s executive vice president of domestic network distribution in a statement.

“We have seen through social media that there is great demand for the service among Android and Chromecast users and we’re excited to deliver HBO Now to them.”

HBO Now first launched in the US in April via Apple devices and Cablevision’s Optimum Online service.
