Netflix orders Green Eggs and Ham for TV

Netflix has ordered a television version of the Dr. Seuss children’s book Green Eggs and Ham.

Based on the Theodor Seuss Geisel book, Green Eggs and Ham will be an 13-episode animated family comedy from TV host Ellen DeGeneres’ A Very Good Production alongside A Stern Talking To and Gulfstream Television, in association with Warner Bros Animation (The Tom and Jerry Show).

It will be adapted for television by Jared Stern (The LEGO Movie sequel), who will exec produce alongside DeGeneres, Jeff Kleeman, Mike Karz and David Dobkin.

For Netflix, the order comes after it commissioned a comedy from Parks and Recreation star Aziz Ansari, a reboot of 1980s/90s series Full House and a David Cross and Bob Odenkirk sketch series.

Green Eggs and Ham was first published in 1960 and is one of the best-selling children’s books of all time. The story follows Sam-I-Am, a character who pesters an unnamed narrator to eat green eggs and ham in a variety of locations, and is told entirely in rhyming couplets.
