History drama explores Knights Templar

US cable channel History and actor Jeremy Renner are developing a scripted series chronicling the events that led to the fall of the Knights Templar in the 14th century.

Knightfall is from History sister producer A+E Studios in association with Renner’s prodco The Combine and another US producer, Midnight Radio.

The story will follow the persecution, downfall and eventual burning at of the Christian military order the Knights Templar on Friday 13, 1307.

Don Handfield (Touchback), who runs The Combine with Renner (American Hustle) created the project along with Richard Rayner (L.A. Without A Map).

The pair executive produce along with Renner, with Midnight Radio’s Jeff Pinkner (Alias, Fringe), Andre Nemec (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol), Josh Appelbaum (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol) and Scott Rosenberg (Beautiful Girls).

Dirk Hoogstra, executive VP and general manager, History and H2, is executive in charge of production for the A+E Networks-owned channel along with Russ McCarroll and Julian P. Hobbs.

Hatfields & McCoys channel History is currently gearing up for its latest scripted effort, Western epic Texas Rising, which has an internationak screening debut at MIPTV before its US TV debut on Memorial Day (May 25).
