A+E raises Black Sales with Starz deal

Black SailsA+E Networks has acquired exclusive rights to pirate adventure series Black Sails for its History channels in the UK and Africa.

Channel operator A+E has picked up exclusive linear rights from Starz, its first programming deal with the US firm.

The eight-part one-hour series debuted on Starz in the US last year and the second, ten-part, season debuted on the premium cable net this January.

The drama series is set twenty years before events portrayed in classic novel Treasure Island. The 8x60mins first season of the series is set in the lawless society and former British colony of New Providence Island, which is controlled by notorious pirate captains.

Rachel Job, director of programming for History at A+E Networks UK, said: “Following the huge success of Vikings, we are really pleased to bring viewers another premium drama to History.”

Separately, the US A&E channel is adapting Swedish vampire movie Let the Right One In for TV,  with Teen Wolf showrunner Jeff Davis attached, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
