Sky channels launch on Snapchat

UK satcaster Sky has launched two content channels on the new Snapchat Discover platform for Sky News and Sky Sports.

Sky will use the Snapchat service to publish daily editions of content featuring six to 10 ‘snaps’, using a combination of images, video and text – including long form articles.

With the rollout, Sky becomes one of the Snapchat’s first UK-specific partners for its Discover service. John McAndrew, director of news output for Sky News said: “We can reach a whole new audience hungry for news in a concise and creative form on a platform they already enjoy.”

Mobile messaging service Snapchat launched the new in-app Discover feature at the end of last month, partnering with a host ofother broadcasters and media companies such as National Geographic, Vice Media, Yahoo News, Comedy Central, CNN, ESPN and Scripps.

Snapchat Discover is designed to let Snapchat users explore stories from different professional editorial teams, who are able to post daily editions of content through their branded channels.

Snapchat has also moved into original programming in past weeks, with SnapperHero, from digital prodco Astronauts Wanted and MSN Fullscreen in conjunction with US telco AT&T, set to launch on the platform.
