HBO greenlights Scorsese, Jagger rock drama

US premium cable channel HBO has given the greenlight to a drama from Martin Scorsese (Wolf of Wall Street, Goodfellas), Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire) and Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger.

The currently-untitled series has been in the works at Time Warner-owned HBO for some time. Set in New York in the 1970s, it follows the emergence of punk and disco through the filter of a record executive trying to find the new sound.

Winter will write, executive produce and showrun the series. Scorsese, Jagger, Rick Yorn, Victoria Pearman, Emma Tillinger Koskoff and George Mastras are also executive producers.

HBO this week revealed it had remastered seminal Baltimore crime drama series The Wire in HD for the first time, and will release it in December.
