DLT hires ex-Twofour, BBC execs

Transatlantic producer DLT Entertainment has hired former BBC comedy and Twofour Group producers to join its development team on a part-time basis.

Darren Smith was most recently the Twofour’s head of entertainment, while Jack Cheshire was head of new comedy at the BBC.

The pair will be charged with driving My Family prodco DLT’s comedy production through scripted and non-scripted formats, as well as developing entertainment programming for UK and international broadcasters. Both report to DLT president Don Taffner Jr.

This comes after DLT hired STV exec Margaret Enefer as head of drama earlier this year.

Smith was executive producer on Twofour-produced ITV diving series Splash, and is also a former commissioning editor, entertainment and comedy at Channel 4, where he worked on shows such as 8 Out of 10 Cats and Friday Night Dinner.

Cheshire has executive-produced shows such as BBC Three’s The Fringe and CBBC’s Big Babies. He also produced BBC Three’s The Wrong Door.

“Jack and Darren have a wealth of experience in the comedy and entertainment genres, having worked on both the production and commissioning side,” he said.

“They both have an impressive list of credits to their name – having brought some of the UK’s most successful shows to the screen in recent years – and working with the best talent on and off screen.”
