US on-demand site Hulu has taken a half-hour single-camera comedy from director Jason Reitman straight to series.
Casual will follow a dysfunctional family of a bachelor brother and his newly divorced sister that help each other date online while raising a teenager.
Reitman (Up in the Air, Juno) will executive produce the project and direct the premiere episode. His production partner Helen Estabrook (Whiplash) and writer Zander Lehmann also EP. Lionsgate Television is attached to produce.
Casual will debut on US broadcaster-backed Hulu next year. Another recently announced Hulu original, 11/22/63, comes from novelist Stephen King and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions.
