A+E, Ideate launch Asian production pact

A+E Networks Asia and Malaysia’s Ideate Media are launching a production partnership designed to “kickstart content development” in the region.

The goal is to stimulate original production opportunities that A+E’s local channel bouquet, which includes the A&E Network and History, can broadcast.

The pair says A+E’s global creative expertise will combine with Ideate’s connections with local producers.

“As A+E Networks Asia expands into broader, mass markets, the importance of regionally-produced content is becoming more prevalent,” said A+E’s executive VP, international, Sean Cohan. “This fund will mean more local stories that can complement a robust program pipeline coming from our US channels – History, A&E Network and Lifetime.”

Ideate recently launched as a new studio venture from Astro Overseas and Khazanah.

“We see ourselves as a key player in the region as a magnet for content development and innovation, attracting the best ideas and talent,” said Ideate CEO Zainir Aminullah.

“In a short period of time, we’re already making encouraging progress in IP acquisition and development both locally, and internationally. Ideate’s partnership with a prestigious global company such as A+E Networks is an excellent platform which we are confident will become a well-oiled machinery to bring great content to the world.”
