Upcoming US sci-fi series The Expanse will be the first to be distributed by Michael Grindon’s new sales unit at Legendary Television.
Former Sony Pictures Television international boss Grindon joined Legendary earlier this year to head up a new distribution division.
It has now picked up international rights to The Expanse, the series based on the S.A. Corey novels and commissioned by Syfy. It is being produced by US indie Alcon Television Group for the US cable net and follows a young woman who brings a hardened detective and a rogue ship’s captain together in a race across the solar system to expose the greatest conspiracy in human history. The Syfy order was Alcon’s first.
Production starts this autumn and Legendary will start preselling it straight away. “We are very excited to be involved with a television series of this caliber from the creative team at Alcon Television,” said Grindon. “We believe that The Expanse will be an extraordinary series that will captivate viewers around the globe.”
