Breaking Bad’s Paul inks development deal with Sony

Breaking-Bad-S2-Photo-2Aaron Paul, who played student meth-head turned master drug cook in AMC drama Breaking Bad, is launching his own prodco following a deal with Sony Pictures Television.

Last week, ahead of picking up his record third Outstanding Supporting Actor in Drama Series Emmy gong, Paul secured a first-look development deal with SPT.

The launch of his new production outfit, Lucid Road Productions, comes after he attached himself to Netflix’s new adult animation series BoJack Horseman, which he will produce, executive produce and voice a character in.

His SPT pact will see Lucid Road develop and produce new series, which SPT will coproduce and likely sell on the international market.

SPT produced Breaking Bad, the AMC drug drama that has turned Paul into a household name.

In the critically acclaimed show, he plays Jesse Pinkman, a morally-conflicted high school drop out that partners with Bryan Cranston’s former biology teacher Walter White to create a pure form of crystal meth.

Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan last year renewed his production deal with SPT, while Cranston has a similar pact with the Culver City-based studio.

Deadline first reported the news.
