Worldwide poaches Australia legal boss from Nine

BBC Worldwide has hired a new legal chief for its Australia and New Zealand operation.

Emren Kara will join the commercial arm of the UK public broadcaster from Nine Network, the Australian commercial broadcaster.

At Nine he was general counsel for the broadcaster’s digital operation Mi9. At Worldwide’s ANZ division he will work across channels, programme sales and digital services.

In this role he will oversee the day-to-day management and operations for BBC Worldwide’s legal functions, covering many areas of business and commercial activity, including television sales, digital distribution and channels operation.

Kara will report to Fiona Lang, who was the Worldwide ANZ legal boss until she was upped to company COO in May following Robin Chalmers departure for FremantleMedia.

Lang said: “His experience in digital media and new business activity illustrates how BBC Worldwide is growing to accommodate the changing needs of its audience.”
