Worldwide sells BBC America royal comedy back into the UK

UK channel E4 has acquired Almost Royal, the first original comedy to come out of BBC Worldwide’s commissioning drive.

Almost-RoyalThe series was made for Worldwide’s US cable channel BBC America and follows two fictional young minor royals on their first trip to the US.

Worldwide sells the series internationally and senior sales executive Kate Childs struck the deal with E4, the youth-skewing channel that is part of UK commercial broadcaster Channel 4.

The seven-part series was originally ordered back in March by Perry Simon, general manager, BBC America.

It debuted on the cable net in June and has performed well in the ratings. The series is produced by UK indie Burning Bright Productions.

The E4 deal marks the first sale for the half-hour comedy series.
