Discovery’s Betty gets BBC Animal Movers commission

Discovery-owned UK prodco Betty has won a commission from the BBC for The Animal Movers.

The two-part factual show will follow expert animal handlers as they move rare, dangerous and difficult to handle animals around the world. Examples include a hippo moving from the UK to France and a dozen penguins being relocated from New Zealand to England.

UK pubcaster the BBC will air the 2x60mins show on BBC Two.

Tom McDonald, acting head of commissioning for BBC Science and Natural History, commissioned the show.

David Emerson, head of features at betty, said: “The combination of observational documentary and rich content is a great way to bring these big, fraught and sometimes dangerous moves to TV.”

Discovery Networks International will see the series internationally, the company confirmed this week.
