Barcroft strikes deal with Japan’s GyaO!

BARCROFT-MEDIAProducer and digital channels and footage provider Barcroft Media is branching out into Japan after agreeing a deal with GyaO!, the largest free streaming site in the country.

GyaO!, which is a subsidiary of Yahoo, now carries a Barcroft channel with a revenue share in place for the associated advertising revenues.

Barcroft works with Japanese content company Stand TV, which facilitated the deal.

The Barcroft channel is billed as portraying the ‘amazing side of life’ and popular content covers extreme sports, super fans and enthusiasts and natural world and wildlife videos.

The Barcroft channel is the second biggest news channel on YouTube and, in Asia, Barcroft recently sealed a deal with Chinese video site Youku.

“We’re delighted to sign with GyaO! After an incredible year of growth this deal takes us a significant step forward in our mission to become the leading global provider of short form factual content” said Barcroft Media CEO Sam Barcroft.

“We are very happy to introduce Barcroft Media’s incredible content to Japanese viewers. We think our Japanese audience will be enthralled by Barcroft TV’s look at the amazing side of life” said Kenichi Tashiro, leader of the Content Business Group at GyaO Corporation.
