Discovery collars DOGTV stake

DOGTVDiscovery Communications has taken an unspecified stake in cable channel DOGTV.

The network creates programming aimed at dogs to keep them company when their owners are not at home.

The 24/7 channel offers shows to relax and stimulate canines, along with busy ‘exposure’-themed shows.

Discovery says the agreement to buy the stake will “help accelerate DOGTV’s growth and allow for collaboration with one of its leading television networks, Animal Planet”.

“The loving relationship between owners and their pets are extremely important to Animal Planet and our programming reflects and supports that unique relationship. We love dogs and celebrate our special bond with them,” added Rick Holzman, executive VP, programming and strategy for Animal Planet.

“Whether providing information on where to adopt a loveable shelter dog, sharing our straight out puppy love-fests TOO CUTE! and The Puppy Bowl or creating canine products, we are always interested in expanding our audiences – human and canine – and developing innovative programming.”

“DOGTV is a proven tool for relieving stress and anxiety for stay-at-home dogs, and a partnership with Discovery will help accelerate the network’s growth, while making DOGTV even more accessible to dog owners,” said Gilad Neumann, CEO of DOGTV.

DOGTV scored a distribution deal with DirecTV last year.
