Crackle signs AVOD deal with NBCU

Sony Pictures Television’s on-demand service Crackle has signed a multi-year licensing deal with NBCUniversal Television & New Media Distribution.

The deal gives Crackle exclusive ad-supported video on demand (AVOD) rights feature films such as the Miami Vice reboot, war drama Jarhead, the remake of King Kong; and Academy-winning biography Ray.

As of today, the films will begin becoming available, with more than 140 library titles to come over the next three years.

“As an ad-supported, over-the-top network we pride ourselves on having a prime selection of premium content,” said Philip Lynch, senior VP, digital networks and games, SPT. “Bringing NBCUniversal’s collection of library films to Crackle complements our original programming and reinforces our commitment to provide viewers with even more streaming choices.”

The news comes soon after TBI broke the news Crackle’s service in the UK had been discontinued.
