Horror Channel buys classic Doctor Who

The UK Horror Channel has acquired several seasons of classic Doctor Who series.

The digital channel, which is part of CBS Chello Zone joint venture, has bought the series from BBC Worldwide.

The channel will get episodes of the popular sci fi series that originally aired on the BBC between 1963 and 1989. Various actors have played the time-travelling Doctor and Horror will have thirty episodes spanning the first Doctor to the seventh.

UK pubcaster the BBC found numerous episodes of the sci-fi series that were thought to have been lost, last year.

Horror will launch the classic episodes in mid-April and have a ‘Who on Horror’ marathon with stories from each of the seven doctors featured.

Sam Tewugwa, commercial director, TV and VOD sales at BBWW, said: “This is a great new way for fans to enjoy classic Doctor Who stories. Our discovery of missing episodes of Doctor Who last year highlighted the fans’ appetite for classic episodes to be made more widely available.”

Alina Florea, director of programming for Horror Channel, added: “Doctor Who is an iconic series and we are proud and excited to welcome this giant of British television to our channel.”
