Kumars comedy format travels to Turkey

HTI---The-KumarsThe Kumars will be remade in Turkey after local broadcaster Star TV ordered a six episode version of the UK-originated comedy series.

The scripted format deal was made by Hat Trick International, which distributes the series. The Turkish show will be based on The Kumars series produced by Hat Trick and Avatar in the UK and which goes out on the Sky1 pay TV channel.

The show features characters from the titular Kumars family who first came to prominence in the earlier BBC comedy series The Kumars at No. 42. In the series the family members host a talk show in their own home.

The Turkish Kumars will be called Kim O and launch on March 8 on Star.

“The new UK version of the series on Sky 1 HD, which saw The Kumars return after a seven-year hiatus, has been very well received, almost doubling the slot average,” said Sarah Tong, director of sales at Hat Trick International. “With a warm-hearted yet always slightly oddball style of humour, Sanjeev Bhaskar and the writing team behind The Kumars have developed a fantastic character-driven series perfect for adaptation.”
